In the town hall at Blagrave Street you will find Reading Museum. It contains galleries relating to the history of Reading together with an art gallery and a full-size replica of the Bayeux tapestry.

At Highclere in Hampshire (post town Newbury, in case you were wondering) is Highclere Castle. Built in Victorian style with richly decorated interiors to match, it is the ancestral home of the Earl of Caernarfon. The house contains a wide range of collections and artefacts. There are also lovely parklands and gardens.
