Fines over bus station death

A court has fined a bus firm and a council after a lorry killed a woman at a bus station in Bedfordshire.

The death of Nicola Berridge during redevelopment of the station in Bedford in February 2015 led to the prosecution of Cambus Ltd.

St Albans Crown Court in Hertfordshire fined the bus company £350,000 after the jury convicted it of failing to discharge a duty to a non-employee under the Health and Safety Act.

The court handed Bedford Borough Council a fine of £300,000 after it admitted the offence.
