Money from CAZ to support buses

10 Sep 2024

Millions of pounds raised through Bristol’s Clean Air Zone (CAZ) will go towards supporting struggling bus services.

From April 2025, the money paid by drivers of the most polluting vehicles in the city centre will subsidise unprofitable bus routes in areas where passengers rely on them.

Operators axed several routes across Bristol during the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic after a drop in passenger numbers, leaving many people stranded without transport.

The income will go towards repairing roads and pavements as well as building new zebra crossings and bicycle lanes to encourage more people to walk or cycle.
