Warning over carer bus pass cuts

Campaigners in Hampshire have warned that cutting free bus travel for carers of people with disabilities would target the most vulnerable users who are ‘least able to pay more’.
One man with a learning disability said he felt the decision would take away his independence and chance of getting a job in the future.

The move is part of wider reforms to bus passes for people with disabilities in the region and is likely to save Hampshire County Council (HCC) £3,000 per year.
HCC said: ‘While some savings in isolation may seem relatively small, the county council’s budget position requires that all areas of expenditure are looked at.’
