Councils could fund electric buses

03 Nov 2025

There are plans to invest £1.25 million in electric buses — hailed as a ‘step change’ in public transport — in Gloucestershire.

Gloucestershire County Council is set to approve the next step in developing a business case for a Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system.

Cheltenham Borough Council, Tewkesbury Borough Council, and Gloucester City Council would provide £1 million in funds from Community Infrastructure Levy contributions; a further £250,000 would come from Gloucestershire County Council.

Cllr Roger Whyborn said: ‘We’re laying the groundwork for a transport network that meets the needs of our growing county.’
