Bus speeds in the capital have slowed to their lowest level in years, the London Assembly has heard.
Average speeds on the city’s bus network fell to 9.17 mph (14.76 kph) in 2024 – 25, down from 10.27 mph (16.53 kph) four years earlier, according to City Hall data.

Bus speeds in London have slowed, leading to a fall in passenger numbers
Passenger numbers also fell — for the first time since the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic — dropping from 1.869 bn journeys to 1.842 bn.
Transport for London (TfL) said its Bus Action Plan would speed up travel, with 25 km (15.5 mi) of new bus lanes, 85 km (52.8 mi) of existing lanes operating 24 hours a day, and 1,900 signals prioritising buses.
