Anton Lakes
Andover
Anton Lakes is a Local Nature Reserve; habitats here include rivers, wetlands, and chalk grasslands. The River Anton rises from springs within the reserve and flows down through a series of old watercress beds; these provide a habitat for the locally rare long-stalked yellow sedge. The river then flows into the lakes, which are themselves home to a variety of birds. The chalk grasslands provide an ideal habitat for butterflies (such as the marble white) and reptiles (such as the slowworm). The site is also home to otters and water voles.
