The gardens of Stourhead House at Stourton are among the best examples of 18th-century landscape design. Laid out by a rich banker, Henry Hoare I (1677 – 1725), they are beautiful throughout the year with shrubs, lakes, and temples.

Stourhead House at Stourton, a Palladian villa with Regency additions, contains furniture made for the house by Thomas Chippendale the younger (c. 1749 – 1822), as well as many fine paintings.
