Free summer bus travel for kids

10 Jun 2025

The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) is to offer children under the age of 16 free bus travel across the summer.

The move, backed by Bristol’s Green council, is likely to benefit up to 150,000 children living in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, and Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES).

The offer, funded through a £13.5 million government transport grant, will run from Saturday 19th July to Friday 5th September; WECA has currently capped bus travel for children aged 5 15 at £1 per journey.

Labour’s Helen Godwin, the new regional mayor, said she wanted families to have ‘something to look forward to’ in the summer.
