Hurst Castle
Lymington
At Keyhaven is Hurst Castle. King Henry VIII (1491 – 1547) erected it for coastal defence in the 1540s. By the end of the 19th century, the castle was the largest of its type ever built. You can reach it by ferry from Keyhaven or by foot via a 2.4-km (1.5-mi) shingle spit from the car park at nearby Milford on Sea. There are good views over the water and a small site exhibition.
