Birds halt bus station demolition

Nesting birds have halted plans to demolish the old First Solent bus station in the Hampshire town of Gosport.
Gosport Borough Council said it had to delay the demolition of the site ‘due to the bird-nesting season and legal requirements to protect wildlife’.

The authority is set to transform Gosport Bus Station, which opened in 1972 with 10 stands, into a new park as part of the council’s waterfront regeneration scheme.
Gosport Borough Council said it hoped to resume work within ‘the next few weeks’ and planned to open the space to the public in the autumn.
