Driver’s jail sentence to be increased
07 Aug 2025
A 24-year-old bus driver — jailed for killing a nine-year-old girl in Greater London after he fell asleep at the wheel — is to have his sentence increased.
Martin Asolo-Ogugua had almost three times the legal level of cannabis in his system after he crashed into Ada Bicakci, who was cycling along the pavement in Bexleyheath on Saturday 3rd August 2024; she died in hospital two days later.

Woolwich Crown Court originally sentenced Martin Asolo-Ogugua to four years in prison
Asolo-Ogugua received a four-year jail sentence after admitting causing Ada’s death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs.
The Solicitor General referred the sentence to the Court of Appeal, arguing at a hearing yesterday that they should increase it, as it was ‘unduly lenient’.
