Anger over axing of bus service

27 Aug 2025

There is growing anger over the cancellation of a bus service that runs between Hampshire and Berkshire, with some residents saying it will leave them cut off completely.

The 7/7A routes, which connect Andover and Newbury, are set to cease operating on Saturday 30th August, after Hampshire County Council (HCC) decided to withdraw funding for them last year.

HCC said ‘unfortunately’ the service, operated by Stagecoach South, had ‘not attracted sufficient passenger numbers to make it viable for continued support’.

Local resident Caitlin Hammond said the cuts were ‘shell-shocking’, and she was ‘gutted’ by the axing of the routes.
