Bus roof ripped off in crash

A privately owned double-decker bus had its roof ripped off when it hit a bridge in the centre of Bristol.

Avon and Somerset Police have advised motorists to avoid the area around Frogmore Street, the site of the crash.

The bus struck the bridge at about 16 20 (4.20 p.m.); there were no passengers on board at the time and the driver was unharmed, the force said.

There has been no assessment of the bridge yet to determine its level of damage but roads are likely to remain closed, the force added.
