Oxford park-and-ride turns 50

10 Dec 2023

Fifty years ago today, in an Oxfordshire city, the country’s first permanent park-and-ride site opened.

Oxford began operating with a car park and a dedicated bus service on Monday 10th December 1973.

Although experimental park-and-rides were in existence in the 1960s, the one at Redbridge was the first permanent example.

The site started out as a rubbish dump, which was then transformed into the traffic management system that is still there now.
