‘No unlawfulness’ in bus advert

A committee has concluded ‘no finding of unlawfulness’ regarding a £10,000 payment for a bus ad featuring pictures of a mayor and his dog.

Photos of Dan Norris, Mayor of the West of England, and his dog, Angel, appeared on a First West of England double-decker in Bristol to promote a bus travel scheme.

The leaders of two councils — South Gloucestershire and B&NES (Bath & North East Somerset) — took the decision to approve the bus advert.

WECA (West of England Combined Authority), however, described the advertisement as ‘clearly unlawful’.
