Buses could face funding cuts

10 Feb 2024

A local authority could withdraw funding for two bus services to beauty spots on the South Downs because of budget cuts.

Brighton & Hove City Council is proposing scrapping subsidies totalling £58,000 for its two Breeze Up to the Downs services.

The cuts would affect the route 77 bus, which runs between Brighton Pier and Devil’s Dyke, and the route 79 bus, which runs between Old Steine and Ditchling Beacon.

A campaign group said the move goes against the council’s aim of getting more people on public transport.
