Buses to Wiltshire ‘ghost village’
17 Aug 2024
Vintage Routemaster buses will transport visitors to a Wiltshire village — abandoned during World War II — on Salisbury Plain.
In 1943, the War Office told the inhabitants of Imber that they had 47 days to leave, as the Army wanted the village for training.

Imber, now the UK’s biggest MoD (Ministry of Defence) training base, is only accessible to the public for a maximum of 50 days each year.
The annual bus service, set up in 2009 to raise money for charity, will run — for one day only — tomorrow; the service starts from Warminster train station.
