Council to reconsider bus lane

North Somerset Council is set to reconsider a planned bus lane that caused ‘fear and anger’ in a local village.
The authority aimed to install the lane — which would have involved moving a bus stop and removing guardrails — on the A370 through Backwell.

At a council committee meeting on Tuesday 27th May, Jeff Wells, of Backwell Residents Association, said removing the railings would be ‘extremely dangerous’.
North Somerset Council argued that the new bus lane would reduce bus journey times between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare, but some councillors warned that spending £2.2 million on the lane, which is 206 m (225 yd) long, was a waste of public funds.
