Students get new school bus trial

20 Jun 2025

Surrey County Council has replaced a cancelled school bus with an extra trial service after parents put pressure on them to do so.

The authority advised children to ‘bring torches’ and ‘suitable footwear’ to walk to school, after it announced plans to axe a free school bus taking students from East and West Molesey to Esher High School, the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said.

The affected children’s parents, however, started a petition to put on an extra 814 service using part of the £12 million transport funding granted to the council by the government.

Surrey County Council said it had worked with Falcon Buses on the issues raised by parents, and had agreed to an extra trial service at no cost to the authority.
