Protest over cuts to bus service

04 Mar 2026

Families of pupils attending a secondary school in a Hampshire city are protesting against cuts to a bus service.

Hampshire County Council (HCC) will axe the service — which runs from the village of Kings Worthy to The Henry Beaufort School in Harestock, Winchester — from Monday 13th April.

Parents have raised concerns about the ‘dangers’ of the alternative 5-km (3-mi) pedestrian route to school.

HCC said a road safety engineer had approved the route and that a free bus service would still be available to low-income families and pupils with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
