MoD ‘sorry’ over bus stop error

28 Jun 2021

The Government has said it is carrying out a thorough investigation to determine how someone came to leave classified defence documents at a bus stop in Kent.

The Minister of State for Defence Procurement, Jeremy Quin, told MPs he was ‘very sorry’ it had happened.

Mr Quin said it appeared to be a mistake made by a senior official, and the MoD (Ministry of Defence) had now temporarily suspended the person in question from being able to access sensitive material.

The documents, which a passer-by at the bus stop had handed to the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), contained details of HMS [Her Majesty’s Ship] Defender and the military.
