Police review over fare arrest
24 Jul 2023
The Met has referred itself to the police watchdog over the treatment of a woman arrested in front of her son in Greater London.
Video footage of the mother shouting as two officers, who accused her of bus fare evasion, held her arms, provoked criticism on social media.

The police watchdog will review the Met’s handling of the incident
The Metropolitan Police said it later released the woman after confirmation that she had, in fact, paid for her ticket.
The force added that the video of the episode in question, which took place in Croydon, was ‘a snapshot of a wider incident’.
