Town to get 24 electric buses

26 Mar 2024

A town in Berkshire is to get its first electric bus fleet after securing £4.7 million in funding from the government.

Reading Buses will add the 24 double-deckers to its purple 17 and claret 21 local routes, and install charging infrastructure at its depot.

The news follows a successful bid from the Zero Emissions Bus Regional Area fund, which is overseen by the DfT (Department for Transport).

The electric double-decker buses will enter service in the next two years, starting with route 17, which is Reading’s most frequently used service.
