College bus ‘careers’ into river

A double-decker bus carrying college students ‘careered’ into a river in Eastleigh, Hampshire, seriously injuring two people.

Shortly before 10 00 (10 a.m.), the 607 Barton Peveril Sixth Form College bus, operated by Bluestar, left the carriageway and plunged into the water off Bishopstoke Road.

A witness described how she helped rescue students and said the bus driver had told her that the brakes were not working.

According to police, two people — the driver and one passenger — sustained serious, but not considered life-threatening, injuries. Fifteen others were also hurt in the crash.
